How to verify the email ID and mobile number with CDSL to activate the demat account?

CDSL now independently verifies email IDs and mobile numbers for new investors.

When you open an account with us to invest in equities, your demat account is opened with CDSL. CDSL will send an email from "[email protected]" and an SMS to you requesting you to verify your email address and mobile number. This may take up to 24 hours. The email will look like this:

The SMS will read "CDSL - To generate OTP to verify your email ID and mobile no. for CDSL BOID 1208160088088088 please click" .

Clicking on the link ( ) in the email or SMS will take you to the page shown below:

Enter your PAN and the demat account number (BO ID). You can see the BO ID on the email and SMS mentioned above.

Once you enter the PAN and demat account number, you will be taken to this page:

On this page, click on the "Generate OTP On Mobile" first and wait for the OTP to be sent to you via SMS. Enter this OTP on the CDSL page and click on the "OTP Submit" button. Once you submit the mobile OTP, you'll see a confirmation message stating that your mobile number has been verified.

After verifying your mobile number, move on to the email OTP. Click the "Generate OTP On Email ID" button. You will receive an email with the OTP from [email protected] that will look like this:

Enter this OTP in the box next to the "Generate OTP on Email ID" button and then click on the "OTP Submit" button at the bottom of the page. You will now see a confirmation message stating that the email ID has been verified. Once this activity is completed, your demat account will be activated by CDSL within the next 24 hours.
