Why is the buy average for some mutual funds shown as a discrepancy?

You will see a price discrepancy on Coin if you have transferred your mutual fund holdings from another demat account but have not updated the original purchase details.

You will see a “discrepant” symbol on the Coin dashboard as shown below:

Under the Mutual Funds holdings section, the schemes will show a discrepant symbol in case there are no trade details.

To check the discrepancy and fix it, you will be redirected to Console . If the holdings have a partial discrepancy, it will show up on Console. The partial discrepancy will not show up on Coin.

In case of a partial discrepancy, the transactions that are already available in the MF trade book will show up under the “View transactions” option for a scheme. If discrepant entries are added for a few units, the same will be displayed.

How to fix the discrepancy on Console:

When you transfer the funds from other Demat accounts to your Zerodha Demat account, the mutual fund units are considered discrepant, and you will have to manually enter the details to regularize the discrepant quantity. The same is the case if you have dematerialized the mutual fund units as well.

In this case, you will need to manually add the price at which you bought the mutual funds. Once you do, the buy average will be calculated as per the price you entered and can be seen in the holdings table.

If you want to edit or delete a trade you've added, hover your mouse over the mutual fund that is pending for buy average adjustment, and you will see an 'Options' button. Click on it to Edit/Delete the trade.

You can only edit or delete while the status is still 'Pending'. Once the recalculation is complete, you will be unable to edit or delete the entry and your buy average will be permanently set. So, be cautious when entering the price and quantity.

  1. The average price for your holdings will be calculated based on the First In First Out (FIFO) principle after considering the discrepant entry you've made.
  2. After you have made the discrepant entry, we will update the buy average within 24 working hours.
