What is a lump-sum investment?

A lump - sum investment is the act of making an investment in a mutual fund in one go. Usually, lump-sum investments are largish.

For instance, investing a sum of Rs.1,20,000/- in a mutual fund, in one go can be considered as a lump sum investment.

However, if you choose to invest the same amount i.e. Rs.1,20,000/- in a staggered manner (example, 10K every month for 12 months), then it's called a systematic investment .
