What documents are required to open a minor account at Zerodha?

Minors cannot buy stocks. Instead, the guardian can either transfer existing stocks in their demat account or buy stocks and transfer them into the minor’s account.

To open a minor account, the following documents are required:

  1. Account opening form ( PDF ).
  2. KYC form ( PDF ) of the minor. The minor’s KYC document must be signed by the guardian. If the guardian's KYC isn't verified, a separate KYC form of the guardian must be submitted.
  3. A passport-sized photograph of the minor and the guardian should be attached along with the KYC form of the minor.
  4. CKYC form of the minor ( PDF ).
  5. CKYC form of the guardian if KYC is not verified ( PDF ). Know Your Customer (KYC) is a process to determine the identity of a customer and details such as income, profession etc. A KYC is mandatory as per SEBI guidelines to open a trading and demat account.   6. PAN copy of the minor.
  7. Birth certificate of the minor.
  8. Address proof in the name of the minor.
  9. A cancelled cheque or bank statement in the name of the minor.
  10. A cheque in favour of Zerodha Broking Ltd to pay the Account Maintenance Charges (AMC) of 300. AMC charges must be paid when opening a minor’s account.
  11. There are no account opening charges for children's demat accounts.
  12. Create a ticket or submit a handwritten letter stating the reason for opening the minor account.
