What are Registrar and Transfer agents (RTA)?

Registrar and Transfer Agents (RTA) are SEBI-registered entities that handle share registry maintenance and share transfer activities for companies that have issued shares to the public.

RTAs perform these key functions:

  • Collect applications from investors for any share issue.
  • Maintain proper records of applications and money received from investors or paid to security sellers.
  • Assist companies with:
  • Determining the basis of allotment of securities in consultation with the stock exchange
  • Finalising the list of persons entitled to allotment
  • Processing and dispatching allotment letters, refund orders, certificates, and other related documents for an issue
