What is the policy regarding client passwords at Zerodha?

Zerodha stores your password in an encrypted manner and does not have access to it. You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for all activities on your account, including unauthorised use. If unauthorised use occurs, you must immediately reset your password and inform Zerodha.

Setting up your password

Once Zerodha opens your account, you will receive a welcome email from [email protected] with a link to set your password. You can use your user ID and password to access:

  • Kite app and Kite web for trading
  • Console for back-office reports and account management

Password security

Zerodha saves your password at the backend in an encrypted manner. Zerodha does not have access to your password.

In case of unauthorised use

If you discover unauthorised use of your account:

  1. Immediately reset your password.
  2. Create a ticket with full details, including:
    • Date of the unauthorised use
    • How your account was used
    • Transactions effected under such unauthorised use

Your responsibility

You must acknowledge that you are fully aware of and understand the risks associated with availing of online trading services. Risks include but are not limited to:

  • Misuse or unauthorised use of your client ID and password by a third party
  • Hacking into your Zerodha account and placing orders on your behalf

You agree that you are liable and responsible for all unauthorised use and misuse of your client ID and password and for all acts done by any person through Zerodha's online trading system on your username in any manner whatsoever.
