1. Why is my NRE account in a debit balance, and how can I check it?
A debit (negative) balance may appear in your account due to charges such as Account Maintenance Charges (AMC), Depository Participant (DP) charges, and Smallcase fees. Your bank does not settle these charges through the Portfolio Investment Scheme (PIS) account. These charges are posted on your funds statement.
2. Why are charges such as AMC and DP charges not settled from my PIS account like trades?
You cannot use funds in your PIS account for Account Maintenance Charges (AMC) and Depository Participant (DP) charges, as these are outside the purview of the PIS regulations.
3. Why is a significant debit balance appearing in my account?
If your buy trade was not settled because there was not enough balance in your PIS account or your bank account is frozen, your Zerodha account may show a debit balance equal to the trade value until it is settled. In such cases, you will receive an email asking you to take the necessary action.
4. How can I clear the debit balance?
You can clear the debit balance by transferring funds from your registered NRE savings bank account to Zerodha via NEFT or IMPS. You can clear debit balances of up to ₹10,000 in one transaction. For higher amounts, make multiple transfers. Use the following account details for the transfer:
