What is the validity period for documents required to open NRI and non-individual accounts?
You must submit your NRI or Non-individual account opening form and supporting documents within their validity periods. Here are the specific validity periods for each document type:
Address proof documents
- Utility bill: Valid for 60 days from the bill date or invoice date
- Bank statement: Valid for 60 days from the last transaction date
- Banker letter: Valid for 60 days from the date of issue
- Driving licence: Valid as per the licence expiry date
- Passport: Valid as per passport expiry date
- Rental/lease agreement: Valid as per the agreement period
- Mariner's declaration or certified copy of Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC): Valid for merchant navy NRIs as per certificate validity
- Resident permit card: Valid as per the card expiry date
- Sale deed: No expiry
- Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card: No expiry
- Certificate of incorporation: No expiry
- Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) copy: No expiry. However, the latest version must be submitted.
Income proof documents
- Payslip: Valid for 30 days from the payslip date. You must provide your latest month's payslip, and it should not be older than one month
- Bank statement (latest 6 months): Valid for 30 days from the statement date. Your statement period should not be older than one month
- DP holdings statement: Valid for 90 days from the date of issue
- Net-worth certificate: Valid for 90 days from the date of issue
- ITR acknowledgement copy: You must submit the previous year's ITR acknowledgement copy, which remains valid until the next financial year
Bank proof documents
- Cancelled cheque or bank statement: You do not need to worry about validity periods for bank proof. You must submit proof of an active bank account
Verification requirements
- In-person verification (IPV): You must complete your IPV within 30 days from the date of final approval of your application form

Valid for 180 days from the immigration stamp date
Notary/Competent authority attestation
- Attestations: Attestations from a Notary or competent authority shall remain valid up to the license expiry date. If no expiry date is applicable, the attestation will be considered valid for 180 days from the date of issue.
Application form validity
- Account opening form and supporting documents: Your account opening application form and all supporting documents remain valid for 90 days from the date you submit them
When submitting your application, make sure all your documents are within their validity periods. If any expire before you complete the account opening process, you'll need to obtain new copies.
