What are the new lot sizes for Index F&O contracts?
Starting November 20, 2024, the lot sizes for index futures and options (F&O) contracts on the NSE (PDF) and BSE (PDF) have changed. This change follows SEBI's new rules (WEB) to update the minimum contract value for index derivatives.
The new rules ensure that each index derivative contract is valued between ₹15 lakh and ₹20 lakh at the time of review. This change accounts for the significant increase in market prices, which have tripled since 2015. It also helps manage the risks and leverage involved in trading derivatives, ensuring they remain suitable for participants.
