How to transfer government securities (G-secs) from RBI retail direct account to Zerodha?

You can transfer government securities (G-secs) from your RBI retail direct account to your Zerodha demat account through a value-free transfer process. Since RBI maintains the ownership of government securities and gold bonds on their ledger, you can only transfer them through this value-free transfer method. Zerodha charges ₹150 + 18% GST as dematerialisation charges for this service.

Required documents

You need to courier the following documents to Zerodha for each G-sec or SGB series/ISIN:

  • 2 Dematerialisation request forms (PDF) for each G-sec or SGB series or ISIN - Fill the dematerialisation form with details of the number of units of G-sec or SGB and the relevant series or ISIN¹
  • Value-free transfer (PDF) letter for each G-sec or SGB series and ISIN
  • Screenshot of your profile from your Retail Direct Gilt (RDG) account - Log in to rbiretaildirect.in and click on Dashboard to view your profile
  • Confirmation receipt you received from RBI
  • Self-attested copy of your PAN card

If you want to transfer 3 different G-secs from your RBI Retail Direct account to Zerodha, you need to submit:

  • 6 dematerialisation request forms (2 for each G-sec)
  • 3 value-free transfer letters (1 for each G-sec)
