You can change the Karta's or a coparcener's name in a HUF Zerodha account by first updating the name with the Income Tax Department (ITD) and then creating a ticket and couriering the required documents to Zerodha.
Zerodha updates your account name from ITD records, not from the documents you submitted when opening your account. If your name on Zerodha differs from your submitted documents, you must first update your name with the ITD before raising a request with Zerodha.
Required documents
All documents must carry a wet signature from the relevant client, followed by the HUF seal.
To update the name, you need to submit the following:

with the Karta's signature in the Applicant signature box, followed by the HUF seal

Copy of the Karta's or coparcener's updated PAN card with the Karta's signature, followed by the HUF seal

Copy of the updated HUF PAN with the Karta's signature in the Applicant signature box, followed by the HUF seal

If you submit Aadhaar as address proof, ensure you submit a masked Aadhaar.
Additional documents for specific name changes
If the name change is due to marriage or divorce, any other reason, or removal of a middle or last name, you need to submit one of the following:

Marriage or divorce certificate: a notarised copy with the Karta's signature, followed by the HUF seal.

Passport: a copy of the passport showing the husband's or father's name, with the Karta's signature, followed by the HUF seal.
- Publication: if you reside in Karnataka or Punjab, provide an original newspaper publication or a notarised photocopy. For all other states, provide an original notarised copy of the name change publication in the official gazette. The document must be signed by the Karta, followed by the HUF seal. The old or existing name on the gazette must match the name on the PAN you submitted when opening your account with Zerodha. See the sample copy (PDF).

You do not need to fill in the address on the KYC or modification forms.

Your account modification form and supporting documents are valid for 90 days from the submission date. Zerodha updates your name within 72 working hours of receiving your forms or approving your online submission. A ₹25 account modification charge, plus GST, applies.
