Can I open more than one demat account with Zerodha?

You can now open a secondary demat account with Zerodha to separate your long-term investments from short-term trades, alongside your primary account to manage investments better and plan taxes more efficiently.

Yes, Zerodha offers multiple demat account options:

  • Primary individual demat account: This is your main demat account linked to your trading account. You can open a Zerodha account online for free if your mobile number is linked with Aadhaar.
  • Secondary demat account: You can open a secondary demat account alongside your existing primary account. This secondary demat account helps you separate long-term investments from short-term trades, improve tax planning through better FIFO (First In, First Out) management, and organise your portfolio more effectively.
  • Joint demat account: You can open a joint demat account in addition to your individual demat account. The primary purpose of opening a joint demat account is to dematerialise jointly held physical shares, as these cannot be dematerialised into an individual account.

You cannot open a secondary demat account if you already have an individual demat account and a joint demat account with Zerodha.
