Can I open an account in the name of a sole proprietorship firm?

No, you cannot open an account in the name of a sole proprietorship firm with Zerodha as it is not a separate legal entity like a partnership or corporation. However, an account can be opened online in the proprietor's (individual's) name.

You can use your sole proprietorship firm's bank account when opening your individual Zerodha account if your bank proof (cheque or bank statement) contains both the proprietorship firm's name and your name as the proprietor.

If your bank proof does not include these details, you need to provide either:

  • A proprietor registration certificate, or
  • A confirmation letter from your bank

Create a ticket to submit these documents. You can download the sample confirmation letter format (PDF) for reference.
