How to change my primary bank account?

Individual and non-individual account holders, and NRO Non-PIS clients can change their primary bank account online. Other account types must follow the offline process.

Online process

Follow these steps to change your primary bank account using the centralised modification page online:

  1. Log in to account.zerodha.com.
  2. Click on Bank accounts.
  3. Click on Link with UPI or Enter details manually.
  4. If you have selected Link with UPI, then scan the QR code with any UPI app and make a payment of ₹1.
  5. If the payment is successful, it will fetch the account details. Click on Continue.
  6. Click on Proceed to eSign and then on Sign now.
  7. Enter the Aadhaar number and click on Get OTP.
  8. Enter the OTP received on the mobile number and click on Verify OTP.

Follow these steps to change your primary bank account from Console online:

  1. Log in to Console.
  2. Click on the Account.
  3. Click on Bank.
  4. Click on Modify bank account icon.
  5. Enter the new account number and IFSC.
  6. Accept the terms and conditions.
  7. Click on Proceed to e-sign and then on Sign now.
  8. Select the check box, enter the Aadhaar number and click on Send OTP.
  9. Enter the OTP received on the mobile number and click on Verify OTP.


  • Bank accounts can now be verified via UPI or manual entry. When you scan the UPI,  Zerodha initiates a test transfer from your new primary bank account for verification. If this verification fails, you can enter details manually and continue.
  • Non-individual accounts can only use manual entry, not UPI.
  • For Non-individual accounts, the eSign can be completed by an authorised signatory using their individual Aadhaar number.

Joint bank accounts

You can add a joint bank account as your primary bank account if the primary holder of the bank and demat account is the same. If they are not the same, courier the account modification form (PDF) and bank proof to Zerodha.

For minor accounts, you can change the primary bank account online by following the above steps. However, the guardian must eSign using their Aadhaar, and the bank details must be for the minor.

Offline process

The following account holders must follow the offline process and courier the necessary documents to change their primary bank account:

An Individual account where a mobile number or email ID is not linked to Aadhaar. Courier the account modification form (PDF) and the bank proof 1 to Zerodha.Sample copy (PDF).
An Individual account linked with a proprietorship bank account Courier the account modification form (PDF), banker's letter (PDF) and bank proof 1 to Zerodha. Sample copy (PDF).
Joint Zerodha account Courier the account modification form (PDF) and the bank proof 1 to Zerodha. Sample copy (PDF).
NRE and NRO-PIS account Courier the account modification form (PDF) and the bank proof 1 to Zerodha. Alternatively, if your mobile number is linked to Aadhaar, you can esign the forms and submit them by creating a ticket.

Non-individual accounts
HUF, Corporate, Partnership, Limited liability partnership, AOP, Trust
Whose authorised signatory’s mobile number or email ID is not linked to Aadhaar.
Courier the account modification form (PDF) and the bank proof 1 signed by the authorised signatory with seal and stamp to Zerodha. HUF Sample copy (PDF), Corporate Sample copy (PDF), Partnership Sample copy (PDF), LLP Sample copy (PDF).

Ensure that the signature on the documents matches the signature in the account.

Zerodha will link your new primary bank account within 72 working hours and send you a confirmation email. A charge of ₹25 + GST applies to change your primary bank account. You can link a maximum of three bank accounts to your trading account: one primary bank account and two secondary bank accounts.

Things to keep in mind

If there is an inconsistency in name between the Zerodha demat account and the name on the bank, you must submit bank proof. Zerodha will try to process the request based on the proof.
1 Bankproof can be any one of the following:

  • Personalised cancelled cheque with the name printed on the cheque leaf.
  • Self-attested bank statement with the IFSC and MICR clearly visible.
  • Self-attested bank passbook.
