Is stamp duty applicable for mutual fund purchases on Coin?

Yes, you pay stamp duty at 0.005% on all mutual fund purchases through Coin. The stamp duty is automatically adjusted against your allotted units rather than charged separately.

How stamp duty affects your investment

When you invest in mutual funds, the stamp duty reduces your actual investment amount, which affects the number of units you receive.

Example calculation

  1. Stamp duty calculation: ₹10,000 × 0.005% = ₹0.50 (50 paisa)
  2. Adjusted investment amount: ₹10,000 - ₹0.50 = ₹9,999.50
  3. Units allotted: If the NAV is ₹10, you receive ₹9,999.50 ÷ ₹10 = 999.95 units

Your investment summary shows the full ₹10,000 investment, but you receive units worth ₹9,999.50 after stamp duty adjustment.

When purchasing mutual funds, stamp duty is currently not displayed under charges on Console.
