What is the difference between holdings and positions?

Holdings show the securities you own in your demat account, while positions show your open trades in intraday or derivatives segments. The information displayed varies between Kite and Console platforms.

On Kite

  • Holdings: You can view all securities (stocks, ETFs, bonds, etc.) in your demat account. Shares you purchase will appear under Holdings starting from T+1 day. The system updates this data in real-time.
  • Positions: You can see your open positions for intraday, derivatives, and delivery trades during the trading day. The system updates this data in real-time.

On Console

  • Holdings: You can view all securities held in your portfolio on a specific date. You can also access historical holdings reports.
  • Positions: You can view positions taken on a particular date. Console updates this data at the end of each trading day.
