How to claim shares through the Quick Transmission Process (QTP) after an account holder's death for holdings and funds up to ₹30,000?

The Quick Transmission Process (QTP) allows for the claim and transmission of holdings and funds valued up to ₹30,000. This process is only available to close family members, such as parents , a spouse, children, or parents-in-law.

The process of transmission under QTP depends on whether the notifier/claimant has Relationship Proof or not.

If you have relationship proof

  • Notifier form (PDF).
  • Quick Transmission Process (QTP) form (PDF).
  • Hard copy of the Client Master Report (CMR) of the claimant/s with DP seal and signature or the soft copy of the digitally signed CMR. If the nominee has an account with Zerodha, then a CMR is not required.
  • Death certificate of the deceased holder (original/ notarised/ or with a verifiable QR code)
  • PAN of the claimant/s (self-attested)
  • Self-attested document showing proof of relationship with the deceased (Any one of the following): Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, Birth certificate, Marriage certificate, Ration card, School leaving certificate, School records or service records, Will, Legal Heirship certificate, Succession certificate, Letter of Administration, Court decree, Probate of Will (where available).

If you do not have relationship proof.

If you cannot provide proof of your relationship with the deceased, you must submit the following documents:

  • Notifier form (PDF).
  • Quick Transmission Process (QTP) Form (PDF).
  • Hard copy of the Client Master Report (CMR) of the claimant(s) with the DP seal and signature, or a soft copy of the digitally signed CMR. A CMR is not required if the nominee or claimant has an account with Zerodha.
  • Death certificate of the deceased holder (original/ notarised/ with a verifiable QR code).
  • Self-attested PAN of the claimant/s.
  • QTP Affidavit (PDF) to be submitted by the claimant on stamp paper valued at ₹100. The claimant is the first party, and Zerodha Broking Ltd is the second party. This affidavit must be notarised.

Things to keep in mind

  • There are no charges for the transmission process.
  • Once Zerodha receives the valid documents, the transmission process will be completed within 21 working days.
  • Lock-in shares and SGBs will only be moved to the claimant's CDSL demat account.
  • The credit fund balance of the deceased will be transferred to the claimant's bank account mentioned in the CMR. If you wish to claim the funds to a bank account other than the one in the CMR, you can provide additional bank proof.
  • If the deceased has a debit balance, the claimant/s must provide a cheque in the name of Zerodha Broking Ltd.
  • The deceased's name must match the name on the CMR and the death certificate. If there is a mismatch, the claimant/s must submit a notarised name-mismatch affidavit.
  • The claimant's name must match their name on the Client Master Report (CMR). If there is any mismatch, you must submit a notarised name-mismatch affidavit.
  • If the claimant/s is a minor, they must be represented by their natural guardian (father or mother). Cliamant/s must submit a Guardian Relationship Affidavit along with the minor's birth certificate. In the case of a legal guardian, a valid court order must be submitted. The guardian must sign the documents on behalf of the minor.
  • If the claimant does not have a demat account, they can open the account with Zerodha by visiting signup.zerodha.com.
