How to get a refund on transfer charges when moving holdings to Zerodha?

If you open a Zerodha account on or after 1 June 2026 and transfer your holdings from another broker, Zerodha refunds the transfer charges your current broker deducts, up to ₹30 per stock, capped at ₹500 in total.

You are eligible for the refund if:

  • Your Zerodha account was opened on or after 1 June 2026
  • You raise a support ticket within 6 months of opening your account

How to claim the refund

Once you have transferred your holdings, create a ticket to claim your refund. Zerodha calculates the refund based on the number of unique stocks transferred and credits the amount directly to your linked primary bank account.

You can raise multiple tickets if you transfer stocks in batches. Once your total refund reaches ₹500, further claims are not accepted.

How to transfer your holdings to Zerodha

You can transfer your holdings online or offline, depending on which depository your current broker uses.

Closure cum transfer

You can use the closure cum transfer process if you want to close your account with the other broker after transferring your shares to Zerodha. Regulations mandate that brokers provide closure cum transfer for free. You cannot use this process to transfer shares to an account not in your name. If you are transferring shares from a joint demat account held with another broker to a joint demat account held with Zerodha, ensure that the primary and secondary account holders in both demat accounts are the same. Since there are no transfer charges involved, Zerodha does not refund anything for closure cum transfers.

Online via CDSL Easiest

If both your current broker and Zerodha are on CDSL (Central Depository Services Limited), you can transfer your holdings online through easiest.cdslindia.com. Once you register, you can submit transfer instructions without any physical paperwork.

Offline via DIS slip

If your current broker is on NSDL (National Securities Depository Limited), submit a Delivery Instruction Slip (DIS) to your current broker with Zerodha's DP details. The transfer is usually processed within one to two working days.

Zerodha's DP details:

  • DP Name: Zerodha Broking Ltd
  • DP ID: 12081600
  • Client ID: Your 8-digit Zerodha client ID
