How to open an HUF account at Zerodha offline?

You can open an HUF account at Zerodha entirely online. However, if the Karta's Aadhaar isn't linked to their mobile number, or if the Karta is an NRI, the account can be opened offline by submitting the required documents to Zerodha and completing IPV.

Required documents

Application form

  • Equity application form (PDF).
  • Sample equity form (PDF). Sample CKYC form (PDF).
  • Refer to the signature guidelines (PDF) to learn how to sign all the forms.

HUF declaration and annexure

PAN

  • A PAN card copy of the HUF with HUF seal and signature.
  • A PAN card copy of the Karta with HUF seal and signature.
  • Self-attested PAN card copy of the Karta.
  • Self-attested Copy of the coparcener's or member's PAN card.

Address proof

  • Address proof of the HUF with seal and signature. You can use the latest transaction copy of the HUF bank statement or passbook.
  • Address proof of the Karta with the HUF seal and signature.
  • Self-attested address proof of the Karta. Accepted documents: Aadhaar, driving licence, voter ID, or passport. If you submit Aadhaar as proof, ensure you submit a masked Aadhaar.

Bank account proof

Submit any one of the following for the HUF bank account:

  • A cancelled cheque with the HUF name printed.
  • A bank statement or passbook copy with the bank logo/seal, account number, MICR, and IFSC code clearly visible.

Income proof

To activate the F&O and commodity segment, submit any one of the following:

  • The latest six-month bank statement or passbook of the HUF account.
  • The latest year's audited profit and loss statement.
  • The latest year's Income Tax Return (ITR) acknowledgement.
  • Net-worth certificate from a chartered accountant with the UDIN number specified.
  • DP holding statement of the entity.

Currency Declaration

To enable the Currency Derivative Segment (CDS), you need to submit the RBI declaration form (PDF) along with your account opening documents.

If the Karta is female

  • Self-declaration form (PDF).
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) (PDF) signed by the co-parceners or members.
  • Undertaking by Karta and Coparceners of HUF (PDF).

Karta is an NRI

  • Notarised copy of Karta’s PAN card with HUF seal & signature
  • Overseas address proof of Karta with HUF seal & signature (The address proof can be any of the following: Driving licence, foreign passport, utility bills, a bank statement, banker letter attested by the bank (on the bank's letterhead) (PDF), rental agreement, lease or sale deed. Mariner’s declaration or certified copy of Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) in case of Merchant Navy NRIs.)
  • In case of an Indian passport, a self-attested and notarised copy of a valid passport with an HUF seal, with the place of birth as India and a valid visa.
  • In case of a foreign passport, a self-attested and notarised copy of a valid passport with an HUF seal, visa and the PIO, OCI or resident card.
  • FATCA declaration with HUF seal (PDF).
  • FEMA declaration with HUF seal (PDF).

Non-individual account declaration form

If the Karta has a resident Zerodha account and would like to use the same contact details for the HUF account, submit the non-individual account declaration form (PDF). Sample copy (PDF).

In-Person Verification (IPV)

The Karta must complete IPV to verify identity and documents. You can do this in two ways:

  • Online IPV: Visit signup.zerodha.com/ipv. Enable your camera and show the 4-digit OTP displayed on screen, ensuring it is clearly visible.
  • Offline IPV: Visit a Zerodha branch office, or request a Zerodha representative to visit your office or residence.

Submitting documents

  1. Email soft copies of all documents to [email protected]. Zerodha will review them and send you a confirmation email once verified.
  2. After receiving the confirmation email, courier the physical documents along with a ₹500 cheque payable to Zerodha Broking Limited to:

Your account will be opened within 5 working days after Zerodha receives your documents.

Things to keep in mind

  • As per Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL) guidelines, the nomination facility is available only for individual demat accounts. Non-individual account holders cannot add a nominee.
  • If you are opening the HUF account after the previous Karta's death, provide a notarised death certificate copy with the HUF seal and signature. For the online process, you can merge this document with the HUF PAN and upload it together.
  • Guardians must sign on behalf of minor coparceners.
