You can open a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) account at Zerodha completely online. The account opening charges are ₹500, and your account will be opened within 48 working hours. For other charges, refer to the HUF charges guide. For other charges, refer to the HUF charges guide.
If the Karta's Aadhaar isn't linked to their mobile number, or if the Karta is an NRI, the HUF account can be opened offline by submitting the required documents to Zerodha and completing IPV. To learn more, refer to Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) FAQs.
Online process

Visit
signup.zerodha.com/huf
and enter the OTP sent to your email and mobile number. You will receive the mobile OTP on WhatsApp. The Karta can use the same mobile number and email ID as their existing individual Zerodha account. However, if any coparceners have an individual account with Zerodha, you cannot use their contact details to open the HUF account.
- Enter the HUF name as per the HUF PAN, the HUF PAN number, and the date of incorporation. If the date of incorporation is listed as ancestral, tick the ancestral PAN option and continue.
- Complete the ₹500 payment.

Enter the HUF profile details: Karta's father's name, mother's name, place of incorporation, annual income, trading experience, occupation, preference for running account settlement, and
Politically Exposed Person (PEP)
status.
- Enter the HUF bank account number and IFSC code, then select the MICR code. Upload the bank statement or passbook as bank proof.
- Enter the HUF address exactly as it appears on the uploaded bank statement.
- Enter the Karta and coparcener details, including the coparcener's passport-size photo. Complete the DigiLocker and Aadhaar verification using the Karta's details. The Karta must also complete the In-Person Verification (IPV).
- Upload the required documents: Karta's PAN, signature, and HUF PAN.
- Complete the e-sign process using the Karta's Aadhaar
Your account will open with the equity segment enabled by default within 48 working hours. The option to enable derivative segments online will be available soon.
Things to keep in mind
- As per Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL) guidelines, the nomination facility is available only for individual demat accounts. Non-individual account holders cannot add a nominee.
- If you are opening the HUF account after the previous Karta's death, provide a notarised death certificate copy with the HUF seal and signature. For the online process, you can merge this document with the HUF PAN and upload it together.
- Guardians must sign on behalf of minor coparceners.
