You can pay your Annual Maintenance Charges (AMC) in advance for 1 to 5 years through Console. When you make an advance payment, Zerodha collects charges for four quarters at ₹300 + GST, assuming your account defaults to non- BSDA status or ₹500/₹1000 depending on your specific account type. If you have opened a secondary demat account, the upfront AMC will be divided equally between both demat accounts. The steps to pay upfront AMC are as follows:
On Kite app
- Tap on your user ID and then on Profile.
- Tap on Manage account.
- Tap on the arrow and then on Demat.
-
Tap on
Pay upfront AMC.
- Select your desired period from 1-5 years and confirm the undertaking by ticking the checkbox.
- Tap on Continue.
On Kite web
- Click on your user ID and then on Console.
- Click on Accounts and then on Demat.
- Click on Pay upfront AMC.
- Select your desired period from 1-5 years and confirm the undertaking by ticking the checkbox.
- Click on Continue.
You must have sufficient balance to complete the upfront AMC payment process. Once completed, you cannot cancel the payment. The funds statement entry
Upfront AMC collected
will be posted regardless of your balance at that time. If your Zerodha account has insufficient funds during debit, it will go into debit, and
Delayed Payment Charges (DPC)
will be levied on the debit balance.
If you complete this process on a trading day by 8 PM, the amount will be deducted the same day and reflected in the funds statement. If completed after 8 PM on a trading day, the deduction will occur on the next trading day. For non-trading days, the entries will be posted together on the next trading day.
AMC balance adjustments
If your AMC rate changes (for example, from BSDA ₹100 to non-BSDA ₹300), Zerodha will only deduct the applicable AMC amount and carry forward your remaining balance to future payments.
Example scenario:
You paid ₹708 (₹300 + ₹300 + ₹108 GST) advance AMC for 2 years.
Quarter 1-2: Your account remains BSDA with holdings value between ₹4-10 lakh
- Zerodha deducts ₹59 (₹25 + GST per quarter × 2 quarters)
- Remaining balance: ₹649
Quarter 3-4: Your account turns non-BSDA because holdings value crosses above ₹10 lakh
- Zerodha deducts ₹177 (₹75 + GST × 2 quarters)
- Remaining balance: ₹472
Your remaining ₹472 will be carried forward until exhausted in future payments.
You will receive a receipt email when your advance payment is posted, and an invoice email whenever AMC is adjusted from your prepaid balance from the next quarter.
If you close your account, any unused AMC balance will be reversed and settled through a funds payout.
