How to link PAN with Aadhaar?

Ensure that your name and date of birth on Aadhaar match exactly with your PAN card. If there is a mismatch, you need to update your name or date of birth on Aadhaar first.

You can link your PAN with Aadhaar online through the Income Tax Department portal in a few simple steps.

  1. Visit eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/pre-login/bl-link-aadhaar.
  2. Enter PAN and Aadhaar and click on Validate.
  3. Click on Continue, enter your name as per Aadhaar, and your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
  4. Click on I have only year of birth in Aadhaar card if only the year of birth is present on Aadhaar, and then on I agree to validate my Aadhaar details and click on Link Aadhaar.
  5. Enter the OTP and click on Validate.

To check PAN Aadhaar linking status, visit eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/pre-login/link-aadhaar-status. Enter the PAN and Aadhaar and click on View Link Aadhaar Status.

The following categories of clients are exempted from Aadhaar PAN linking:
  • NRIs
  • Not a citizen of India
  • Age > 80 years as on date
  • State of residence is Assam, Meghalaya or Jammu & Kashmir
If you are an NRI client whose trading account has been suspended for PAN-Aadhaar linking, you need to update your residential status with the Income Tax Department.
NRI clients whose trading account has been suspended for PAN and Aadhaar linking must update their residential status with the Income Tax Department (ITD). If you belong to other exempted categories and face trading restrictions, update your details on the ITD portal by logging into eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/login. For further assistance, contact the Income Tax Department directly.
