How to update the buy average on Console?

When you transfer shares from another broker to Zerodha, there will be holding discrepancies, and you must enter the buy average manually on Console.

To update your buy average price on Console:

  1. Log in to Console.
  2. Click on Portfolio.
  3. Click on Holdings from the drop-down.
  4. Click on View discrepancy from the options on stocks with a warning symbol.
  5. Select the stock with a discrepancy and click on Add trade.
  6. Enter the purchase date, price, and quantity, and click on Add. The purchase date should be on or before the demat credit date.
  7. The buy average price will be updated within a day and will be calculated based on the First In First Out (FIFO) method.
  8. Entry can be edited or deleted only while the discrepant entry status is Pending. The entry cannot be modified once the buy average is updated. The buy average will be updated within 24 hours.

Things to keep in mind

  • Only one entry per ISIN per date is allowed. Any additional entry for the same security on the same date will be rejected.
  • When you transfer from your own demat account with another broker, you need to obtain the buy average and date of acquisition from your previous broker. This is because only the units are transferred during the process, and the associated details, such as the buy average and date of acquisition, are not automatically included.
