How to place market orders for GTT?

Market orders cannot be placed using GTT. However, limit orders can be used like market orders by setting the price above or below the trigger for buy or sell orders.

Example Scenario

Buy GTT

To purchase Tata Motors at ₹80 when the Current Market Price (CMP) is ₹101.40, set the GTT trigger for buying at ₹80 and the limit price at ₹85. When the trigger price of ₹80 is reached, a limit order will be placed at ₹85, and the order will be executed at the best available price, up to ₹85.

Sell GTT

Set the GTT (Good Till Triggered) trigger to sell Tata Motors at ₹120. Once the trigger price of ₹120 is met, a limit order will be placed at ₹117. The order will then be executed at the best available price, potentially as low as ₹117.

Did you know?

  • Place a higher limit price in buy GTT orders and a lower limit price in sell GTT orders from the trigger to increase the chance of execution.
  • Triggered orders are rejected if the limit price exceeds the price bands for the day. To learn more, see What are circuit limits or price bands?
