Minors cannot directly buy shares and government securities in minor accounts. These securities must be transferred using Zerodha's gift feature or CDSL Easiest. With Kite access, minors can sell existing equity shares, buy mutual funds, and apply for IPOs, buybacks, and takeovers.
How to transfer securities to minor accounts
Transfer securities from another account using one of these methods:
- Gift transfer (recommended): Use Zerodha's gift feature for easier transfers.
- CDSL Easiest transfer: Securities can also be transferred using CDSL easiest.
What minors cannot do
Minor accounts have these restrictions:
- Minors cannot place orders for government securities
- Minors cannot pledge shares
- Minors cannot activate new segments
- Minors cannot provide commodity declarations
If the minor demat account was opened before January 2024 (where only a demat account was opened), you need to enable Kite login access.
