Why have I received a UPI collect request from Zerodha, which I did not raise?

You might receive a wrong UPI collect request from Zerodha in the following scenarios:

Another Zerodha client entered your UPI ID by mistake

This happens when another client mistakenly enters your UPI ID while adding funds to their Kite account.

Example scenario:

  • Two Zerodha account holders: Ashwin K (UPI ID: ashwin.k@okaxis) and Ashwin L (UPI ID: ashwini.l@okaxis)
  • If Ashwin L enters ashwin.k@okaxis instead of their own UPI ID, you (Ashwin K) will receive the wrong request

What you should do: Decline the transaction on your UPI app if you did not initiate the transfer. Even if you approve the transaction by mistake, the fund transfer will fail because your bank account is not mapped to their Zerodha account. Zerodha only accepts fund transfers from linked bank accounts.

You can check your linked bank accounts by visiting console.zerodha.com/account/bank.

Someone has access to your Zerodha account

If someone has unauthorised access to your account, they might place requests for you to add funds. This could happen if:

  • You shared your Zerodha login details with someone
  • You fell victim to a phishing attack where fraudsters tricked you into adding funds to your account

What you should do: Immediately reset your Kite login credentials.

Learn more about phishing attacks by visiting zerodha.com/z-connect/phishing-scam.

The fraudster's plan is typically to execute unauthorised transactions with the transferred funds. Learn about common stock market scams by visiting zerodha.com/z-connect/stock-market-scams.

A fraudster registered Zerodha as their name in a UPI app

Scammers sometimes register "Zerodha" as their display name in UPI apps to trick users into transferring money.

Zerodha's official UPI IDs

When adding funds to Kite, you will only receive requests from these official UPI IDs:

  • zerodhabroking@hdfcbank
  • zerodha.broking@icici
  • zerodhabroking@axisbank
  • zerodhabroking@yesbank
  • zerodhabroking.brk@validhdfc
  • zerodhabroking.brk@validicici
  • zerodhabroking.brk@validaxis
  • zerodhabrokingsignup@hdfcbank (when you open your account with Zerodha)

What you should do: If you receive requests from any other UPI ID claiming to be Zerodha, email us immediately at [email protected] or create a ticket.
